One of poverty's main effects is starvation which of course leads to death. Every day, 35,000 children under the age of five, die of starvation. Each day millions of people go without food because they don't have enough money. Every day people live in fear of death without proper clothes food and/or clean water. All this can be changed though, if people will just donate money to good causes instead of wasting it on itms that they will probably waste. If people donate old clothes and food to shelters for the poor and charity. The poor will be grateful for even an extra few dollars since most of them have probably never seen the inside of a proper home, let alone them owning a T.V. or computer. So like I said all people have to do is take some time or donate a little money or clothes to help the poor.

What Is Poverty?

Many people don't understand poverty or what it is and so many people don't bother to help. Hopefully the people who don't understand poverty, will be able to help after reading this blog.

These are some quotes and pictures about poverty that i found:

Poverty is hunger. Poverty is lack of shelter. Poverty is being sick and not being able to see a doctor. Poverty is not having access to school and not knowing how to read. Poverty is not having a job, is fear for the future, living one day at a time. Poverty is losing a child to illness brought about by unclean water. Poverty is powerlessness, lack of representation and freedom.

Some goals that the world has for the 21st century are:

Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger

Promote gender equality and empower women
Achieve universal primary education

Reduce child mortality
Improve maternal health
Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria, and other diseases
Ensure environmental sustainability

Child Poverty

I have done some more research on poverty ancd found out even more. I learned that 26,500-30,000 children die each day due to poverty. I think that this is really sad because children should e healthy, happy, and well educated. This doesn't happen though because so many people are poor, that they end up drinking bacteria filled water and getting sick because that's the only water that they have and can afford. Also i learned that around 27-28 percent of all children in developing countries are estimated to be underweight. People don't have enough money for food and some end up eating out of the garbage which is really sad because while we are wasting food and water every day, and throwing out clothes that are out of style or small, millions of people are going without any of these things every day, and dying because of it. Here are some facts about child poverty:Number of children in the world
2.2 billion
Number in poverty
1 billion (every second child)
Shelter, safe water and health
For the 1.9 billion children from the developing world, there are:
640 million without adequate shelter (1 in 3)
400 million with no access to safe water (1 in 5)
270 million with no access to health services (1 in 7)
Children out of education worldwide
121 million

Poverty

I recently read a few articles on poverty and i found out nuch more than i ever knew. Before reading, i used to think that poverty affects only a few people, maybe 20%, in the world. After reading these articles i found out it affects about half of the worlds population. I found out that nearly 3 billion people, almost half the world, live on less than 2.50 a day. I found out that nearly a billion people entered the 21st century unable to read a book or sign their names.(read more) I learned that less than one percent of what the world spends on weapons, was needed to send every child in the world by 2000, yet it didn't happen. Things like these happen every day, people go withot food, an education, and/or clean water, and some of the richest people in the world do nothing about it.
